Video: Table Top Tips Part 1 - Color Palette & Sketch

Is he a dark elf or a vampire? Not sure. I painted him up in under 2hrs though. Actually, less than that. Just shooting the video took 82min. That includes painting, drying time, washing brushes, changing water, mixing paints and blabbing at the camera o_O Anyways here is a cut down, short tutorial of where to start...

WIP: NOCF Vignette - The Final Details

EEsh. Let's put this one out of it's misery. We've toyed with it long enough - like a DeathJester toying with a lone veteran Sons Of Orar Spacemarine. I used Fernando's cool wet technique on the blacks with the colors above. You can see the nice smooth look on the legs after the jump...

WIP: NOCF Vignette - Marine Final Details

Oh man. This one has dragged on like some kind of horrible campaign on a doomed Craftworld o_O  Above I added the decals as guides for my freehand work. After the jump you can see how I paint over them...

WIP: Candied Skull

The Agent of Chaos has been after me for ages to make her a Candied Skull. After the whole Star Wars Rebels debacle I am powerless to stop her. Let's follow the rabbit down the rabbit hole shall we?

WIP: Star Wars Rebels

So you may remember that a while ago I was strong armed into buying the set above by The Agent of Chaos. Around that time I was lucky enough to have a chance to test out a new line of paint being developed by a fellow from CMON. So guess who got a nicely painted set of Star Wars Rebels minis for their birthday?  Let's see how things went...

WIP: Massive Voodoo Paint Box

I won't lie. I get burnt out too, sometimes.  After the NOCF army I was thrown right into a weekend course with Fernando Ruiz (More on that in another post!). It was an actual painting overload, but in a good way. I just needed to do a fun personal project while my new skills marinated and I chilled out a bit... and what showed up in the mail? My Massive Voodoo paint box!!! You know how much I like staining display cubes, so I bet you can guess where this is going...

Testing: A New Line of Paints

So a new line of paints in being made by a fellow artist on CMON. I got my hands on a set of 10 colors to help test and give feedback. They will be perftec for painting up the Star Wars Rebels set The Agent of Chaos talked me into purchasing and painting for her. It's a victory for everyone I assure you o_O

NOCF Vignette & Other WIPs

So, while I was working on my part of the NOCF charity armies this year, I had a few other side projects going. Above is the start of one. A little vignette featuring a down on his luck Sons of Orar marine and a serious looking Harlequin. Let's see where this goes...

WIP: NOCF Marines - Lenses, Purity Seals, OSL & Decals

Man were the lenses easy to paint! Good thing too, there were a lot. Paint white on the lens. Flood the area with Waywatcher Green Glaze. That's it...

WIP: NOCF Eldar Final Details

I used the colors above to do the freehand. Lots of very thin glazes getting darker and darker as I went with the original helmet colors for touch ups as I went. I figured Eldar were fancy and would do freehand art on their helmets. More details below...

WIP: NOCF More Details (the tedious ones)

This one will be short. Ironic, since painting these details took the longest o_O Black, metal and gold finished above, colors used below...

WIP: NOCF - Details & Greens

I decided to warm up with a face. Since it's the focal point of a mini I can lavish attention on it. Here is how the SGT looks with out his helmet. You can see the colors I used below...

WIP: NOCF Armies: The Build

So by now you know I am helping out with the NOCF charity army build again this year. It's Sons of Orar Space Marines VS Eldar! I'm hedging my bets and working on a unit for both armies. I've teased a few things from the painting process up to this point, but now lets get into detail of how I do the building and painting. Boring grey plastic first!

WIP: Monochrome Loka Pawns

A while ago CMoN was having a painting contest for limited palettes. I have wanted to paint up my Loka board games pieces forever and I have wanted to try a monochromatic paint scheme for a long time too. Two birds one stone? Yes please! *Note: No birds were hurt in the making of this post*

Discussion: Guys VS Gals & Creativity

By Blue69Sapphire from Deviant Art
I don't do a lot of these, but I'm feeling chatty. This is not a who's better at painting or gaming guys vs girls type of post. Well, it is - but not that blunt. Men and women are different and I think the way they approach art is as different as everything else about us. I'm using painting examples here because that is what this blog is about, but really my question is going to boil down to creativity. Let's look at some examples (with links to their works)...

WIP: What Would WIll Do (WWWD)

This one is going to be quick. I used James Wappel's Shaded Basecoat Technique again to get this quick little piece done in a few sittings just to see what kind of balance I could strike between time and effort...
